Terms & Conditions

Last updated: May 2026

These terms govern the supply, fabrication and installation of worktops and related stone products by Cawdor Worktops, the online arm of the Cawdor Group, trading from Cawdor House, London Road, Woolmer Green, Hertfordshire SG3 6JE.

1. Products

We aim to show representative samples of all our stone. However, please remember that stone is a natural product and is subject to variations in tone, colour and marking. Some products will also show slight imperfections — these are a natural occurrence in the stone.

2. Specifications

Dimensions are approximate only and may be subject to a degree of inaccuracy.

3. Prices

Prices may be subject to change without notice. See our pricing accuracy page for details on what can affect your final quote.

4. Payment Terms

For worktops, unless credit terms have been agreed, a deposit of 50% is required on placing an order before we can carry out the template. This can be paid by credit/debit card, BACS or cheque.

The remaining balance is required as cleared funds before fabrication can begin, and must be paid by BACS.

We charge a minimum £150 + VAT re-stocking fee if your material is changed after a template appointment has been booked.

5. Placing orders

Please measure carefully. Stone products are subject to batch variation and we cannot agree that subsequent orders will match, nor can we be responsible for products that are surplus to requirement.

6. Lead-time for special orders

We like to offer our clients choice and quality and this sometimes means that items take a while to source. Please enquire about the current lead-time for items you are interested in before placing your order: we would not want to disappoint you by failing to meet your work schedule.

Please note that special orders cannot be cancelled or returned.

7. Estimates

Estimates are provided in good faith. Please ensure they are correct, as the company cannot be held responsible at a later date for inaccuracies.

8. Fixing

Whilst we are happy to offer advice, we are unable to accept responsibility for problems arising from the incorrect fixing of products by a third party, shortages or products that are surplus to requirement.

9. Templating

Our aim is to offer you an efficient and accurate service. In order to achieve this, it is essential that the following be carried out prior to our designer arriving on site:

  1. All surfaces/carcasses to be templated must be complete, flat and level. The final level of the worktops can only be as good as the level of the units supporting them, so please be aware that we are unable to accept responsibility for problems caused by additions or alterations to the furniture or appliances after templating has taken place.
  2. If you are replacing existing worktops they must be removed in order for the carcasses to be seen. Without removal of the existing tops it is impossible to assess whether additional work needs to be carried out before new worktops can be fitted.
  3. Inset sinks and taps must be disconnected but available for the designer to view.
  4. Gas or electric hobs must be disconnected but available for the designer to view.
  5. Under-mounted and Belfast or Butler style sinks must be fixed in their final position. All these types of sinks will be manufactured with an 8mm overhang around the sink area.
  6. Any units to be fitted directly on top of the worktops must be fitted after the worktops. It is not acceptable to leave a gap with the intention of sliding the worktops underneath.
  7. If any walls around the worktops are to be plastered this must be done either before templating or after the worktops have been fitted.
  8. Any boxing up around pipework must be completed prior to the template.

The client or their representative must be present during templating to agree all relevant details with our designer, including edge detail, height of splashbacks, position of joints etc. If the client or representative is not present for the template we hold the right to cancel the appointment and charge £150 + VAT for the cost of the missed appointment. The client or their representative must be available for the whole day, as the templater may run late due to appointments and traffic taking longer than expected.

If the layout has changed between a quotation being accepted and the template taken, we may need to revise the quotation and sign it off with the client. Please be aware that this will invariably cause a delay.

We are able to accept detailed drawings with all the necessary dimensions in lieu of creating a template, but will require client corroboration by signature.

10. Fixing worktops

In order to ensure a problem free installation please note the following points:

  1. If any sink, tap or hob has been re-connected following templating, they must be disconnected again prior to fitting taking place.
  2. Tiling in areas around worktops must take place after fixing worktops.
  3. In the event of any plasterwork etc being disturbed during fixing, all making good and subsequent costs are the responsibility of the client.
  4. Please be aware that we do not have the tools or skills to undertake gas, electrical, plastering or plumbing work whilst fixing.
  5. Where jointing of materials is necessary it will not always be possible to secure an exact match between the jointing material and the stone. Please note that jointing lines are therefore likely to be visible, particularly on lighter coloured materials.
  6. Transport and fixing by a third party (customer or their agent) is at the customer's own risk.

Please note that, whilst we take every care to minimise the disruption during installation, the process will create some dust. We ask our clients to ensure that, as far as practicable, doors to other parts of the house are kept closed, and to remove items of value in the installation area which may be adversely affected (e.g. televisions).

11. Sign Off

On completion of an installation it is essential that the client or their representative is available to inspect the works and sign off our acceptance form. You will appreciate that after our installers leave the site it is impossible for us to verify any subsequent claim for damage to the goods and/or their surrounds. This being the case, should no one be available to sign off the acceptance form and attach any comments associated with any problems, the client accepts that we are no longer liable.

12. Processing time

We will endeavour to fulfil our agreed commitments to all our clients. However, due to the vagaries and variations of the materials we use, we only offer an expected delivery and installation date. We are unable to accept any liability for any loss whatsoever due to delay in delivering our product.

13. Aborted visits

Please note that should conditions be such that we are unable to complete templating and/or fitting in one visit there is an automatic surcharge of £150 + VAT or £75.00/hour, whichever is greater.

14. Slab thickness

All dimensions are nominal and may vary according to the standard industry cutting tolerances.

15. Ownership

All goods remain the property of Cawdor Worktops (Cawdor Group) until full and final payment has been acknowledged.

16. General

All our works are carried out in accordance with the standards and recommendations of the Stone Federation of Great Britain's Code of Practice for the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of natural stone kitchen worktops.

The placing of an order shall be deemed as full acceptance of these terms and conditions. The customer's terms and conditions shall not be incorporated into any contract with the company, and in any event these conditions shall prevail over all the customer's terms and conditions.

Finally, please be advised that standing on the finished worktops is not recommended and we can take no responsibility for problems arising as a result.
